3、rojectwasnotfinishedintheNorthernWeiDynastyexceptthecentralonebecauseofapalacerebelling.Thereare11bigstatuesinthemiddlecave.Sakyamuniisofdignifiedandsereneappearance,whilehisdiscipleandBodhisattvaareofslenderfigureandelegantlook,whicharethetypicalstyleofthe
4、lateNorthernWeiDynasty.Thefloorisengravedwithlotuspatternsandontherooftopisarelieveofflourishinglotusflower.TheSouthCavewascompletedinthelateSuiDynasty,andtheNorthCaveintheearlyTangDynasty,eachwithastyleoftheirowndays.IntheWestHillofLongmen,thereareseveral“
5、themost”cavestofeastyoureyes.Justnow,wevisitedtheTen-thousandBuddhaCavewith15000Buddhistimages,whichhasthemostBuddhaimages,andtheLotusCavewith2cm-highBuddhaimages,whicharethetiniestBuddhaimages.Andnow,we’vecometoanother“most”,theFengxianTemple,thesymbolorth
6、esouloftheworld-knowngreatLongmen-grottoes,builtintheTangDynasty,anditisthelargestgrottoinLongmenTemplewithawidthof36metres(about118feet)andalengthof41metres(about136feet).Thereareninemajorfiguresofvariousfacialappearancesandtemperamentsinthetemplethatwereb
7、uiltinaccordancewiththeBuddhistriteandtheirrelationshipsbytheartists.ThemostimpressivefigureisthestatueofVairocanaBuddhasittingcross-leggedontheeight-squarelotusthrone.Itis17.14metres(about56.23feet)intotalheightwiththeheadfourmetres(about13feet)inheightand
