2、thistoryinTongjiUniversityandisthemostpowerfulandimportantsubject,inthatiteducatesoutstandingengineersandhasscientificresearchachievementwhichhaveconsiderableinfluenceonacademicandengineeringfields.StructuralEngineeringdisciplinewasfoundedin1914;withtheadjustmentofcollegeanddepar
3、tmentsin1952,themergerofShanghaiInstituteofUrbanConstructionandShanghaiInstituteofBuildingMaterialsin1996,aswellasShanghaiRailwayUniversityin2000,theacademicdisciplineaccelerateitsdevelopment.In1981,StructuralEngineeringwasgrantedasthefirstgroupofinstituteofferingmasteranddoctord
4、egreesandalsoasthefirstbatchofferingpositionofpost-doctorincivilengineering.StructuralEngineeringdisciplinewasrankedasstateleadingacademicdisciplineinChinaDisciplineAssessmentof1987,2006andShanghaileadingdisciplinein2001.StructuralEngineeringdisciplinehasdistinctcharacteristicand
5、strongeducationalandresearchabilityinconcretestructures/masonrystructures,steelstructures/timberstructures,spacestructures,structuralanalysis,disasterreductionofstructuralandlifelineengineering,aswellasstructurallife-timedesignandmaintenance.Theacademicdisciplinenowhas167facultym
6、embers,including1academician,4MOEChang-jiangScholarAwardprofessor,39professors,61associateprofessors,3seniorengineers,and5seniortechnicians.Mostofthemareextraordinaryfamousinternationalexpertsandscholars.Theyleadthedevelopmentofstructuralengineeringinthiscountry.Recently,agreatac
7、hievementacknowledgedallovertheworldhasbeengotinaspectsoftrainingofengineers,educationalimprovement,internationalcollaboration,scientificresearch,andsocialservice.Theacademicdisciplinehasenrolledaveragely200mastergraduatestudents,and50doctoralgraduatestudentseveryyear.Numerousedu
