3、p;#039;sworkinaHealthCentre,andherstudents'practicewhilstonplacements.Transactionalanalysis,whichwasfirstdevelopedintheUSAinthe1950sbyEricBerneasatheoryofbehaviourandbehaviouralchange,isbecomingincreasinglyknownandusedinavarietyofsettingsintheUK.However,literat
4、ureabouttheuseoftransationalanalysisinsocialworkandcounsellingsituationsissparse.Transactionalanalysishasaclarityandsimplicitywhichcanmakeforevangelicalfervouranditcanbeadoptedsimplybecauseitseemseasytounderstand.Inpractice,however,itdemandsahighdegreeofknowledgeandskil
5、lfromtheworkeraswellasarealcommitmenttochangefromtheclient.Itisnot,infact,aneasyoptionforsocialworkersbutbecauseitoffersacomprehensiveframeworkforunderstandingbehaviourandinteraction,aclearfocusforinteractionandthepossibilityofsharingtheconceptswithclients,transactional
6、analysisprovidesapotentiallyusefulandexcitingapproachtounderstandingandchangingbehaviour.Thisarticlewilldescribebasictransactionalanalysistheory,explorethepotentialforusingthismodelinsocialworkpracticeand,inconclusion,discusssomeofitsadvantagesanddisadvantages.Itiswritt
