3、7References1920毕业论文(设计)1.IntroductionIntheVictorianAge,Hardy’sTessoftheD’Urbervillescausedagreatdisturbance.Hismoralconceptthatpuritycamefromsoulcouldnotbeacceptedbythepeopleofthatage,andwasevenstronglycriticized.Withthecenturywentfarawayfromusgradually,peoplestartedtorecognizetheworkinanewway.
4、Sincetwentycentury,thereemergedalargenumbersofreviewsonthenovelofTessoftheD’Urbervilles.Inthesereviews,whatmostpeoplepaidcloseattentiontoisthecausesofTess’stragedy.ProfessorWebsterattributedthemainreasonstothecontrollingforcesinhumanlife,whichwerethe“heredity”ofbeautyandcharacter,thesexualattra
5、ctionbetweentheoppositesexandtheoperationofchance,whileArnoldKettleconsideredthatTess’stragedyrepresentedthedisintegrationoftheEnglishpeasantry,andproposedthatitwasTess’slowsocialstatusthatmadeherunabletogetridofthetragicfate;inaddition,VanGhentanalyzedthecausesfromthepointofviewofnatureinfront
