4、on.1IntroductionTrustplaysanimportantroleinvirtualorganisations,counteringuncertaintycausedbythebusinessrequirementforopenness.Therequirementseekstomakemarketableservicesopenlyavailabletoallpotential,highlyautonomousclients,whichincreasesaserviceprovider’svulnerabilitytoanattack.Asthereisnocentra

5、lauthoritytoprovidesupportfortraditionalauthenticationforarapidlychangingactorbase,makingsensibleauthorisationdecisionsconcerningnew,previouslyunknownpartnersisdifficult.Manualupdatestopolicyoraccesscontrolsettingsquicklybecomelaborious,whichdrivesorganisationsintomak-ingonlyverybroaddecisionsconce

6、rninglargepartsoftheuserbasetoavoidtheoverlyheavyprocessofpersonalizingthesecuritysettings.Trustmanage-mentcanprovideabasisformoredetailedandbetter-informedauthorisationdecisions,whileallowingforahighlevelofautomation.Thispaperaimstoprovideanoverviewoftrustmanagementresearchinthefieldofcomputersci
