3、herespectfultoneofmostofthebook'swidenotice.Thereareseveralreasonsforthattone.AmongthemisGriinbaum'sfamiliaritywithimportantphasesofFreud'swork,especiallythoseleadinguptothepublicinceptionofpsychoanalysisatthebeginningofthecen-tury.Griinbaum'sbookalsodisplaysanacquainta
4、ncewithavari-etyofFreud'slaterwritingsandwithpost-Freudianpsychoanalyticdevelopments.Inadditionitfurnishesacompendiumofthecriti-cismsFreud'sthoughthasevoked.Also,forinterestingbutdispro-portionatemeasure,athirdofthebookindictshermeneuticcon-strualsofFreud,notablythoseof
