2、ontentofsubjectmatter.Contentprovidescognitiveandmotivationalbasisforlanguagelearningbymakingitcaptivatingandinterestingtolearners.Moreover,CBIallowstheintegrationofalllanguageskillswithinsubjectmatterbymakingitengagingforlearnersofEnglishforSpecificPurposes(ESP).Thispa

3、peraddressesvariousformsofCBIandadesirablesequenceoftheirapplication.Learners'responsestoacquiringvariouslanguageskillsthroughCBIandself-assessmentoflanguageskillsarecomparedwithlearningoutcome.IntroductionAforeignlanguageismostsuccessfullyacquiredwhenlearnersareengaged

4、initsmeaningfuluse.LanguagelearningandcontentofsubjectmattercouldbebroughttogetherwithintheContent-BasedInstruction(CBI).Theintegrationoflanguageandcontentinvolvestheincorporationofcontentmaterialintolanguageclasses.CBIissometimesreferredtoas'languageacrossthecurriculum

5、',andhasbecomeincreasinglypopularasameansofdevelopinglinguisticability.Contentcanprovideamotivationalandcognitivebasisforlanguagelearningsinceitisinterestingandofsomevaluetothelearner(Brewster,1999:84).CBIcombinesintegratedteachingofalllanguageskillsandsubjectmatter,whi

6、chmakesitanappealingapproachtoEnglishforSpecificPurposes(ESP)courses,asathigherlevelslanguagecanbeperfectedthroughsubjectcontents.ThispaperaimsatexploringvariousformsofCBIandintegratingtherelevantcontentintotheESPclassroomwithinaslightlydifferentapproach,i.e.withoutinvo

7、lvingsubjectteachers.CBIcanbeimplementedbyteachingEnglishthroughsubjectcontent.Employinglearners'knowledgeofsubject,usingtask-basedlearningandholisticapproachtolanguageinstructionthroughup-datedauthenticmaterialsandinvolvinglearnersinthemeaningfulusageoflanguageallowsle
