2、ket-basedglobaleconomy,itsfast-movingworldfinancialmarketsappealtomanyforeigncompanies.ThisfinancialgrowthhasgivenrisetoapressingdemandforlargenumbersofcompetentusersofEnglishinawiderangeofprofessionsandbusinesses.Suchrecentpolitical,economic,andsocialfactorswillhaveagreatimp
3、actonEnglishlanguageteachingandlearninginChina.Hence,howtoimprovelearners’abilityoflearningEnglishinordertomeetnewdemandsseemsimperative.Inthepast25years,thefieldofsecondlanguageacquisitionhasseenthereemergenceofinterestinoneareaoflanguagestudy,i.e.vocabulary,andtheappearance
4、ofanewlyrecognizedaspectlearningstrategies.Vocabularyisafundamentallyimportantaspectoflanguagelearning.Learningalanguageisjustlikeconstructingabuilding,inwhichvocabulary,thebuildingmaterials,isessential.Vocabularyknowledgeenableslanguageuse,languageuseenablestheincreaseofvoca
5、bularyknowledge,andknowledgeoftheworldenablestheincreaseofvocabularyknowledgeandlanguageuseandsoon.Rubin&Thompsononcesaid,“Onecan’tspeak,understand,readorwriteaforeignlanguagewithoutknowingalotofwords.”Therefore,vocabularyisattheheartofmasteringaforeignlanguage.InChina,theimp
6、ortanceofvocabularyinsecondlanguageacquisitionhasbeengreatlyrecognized.However,teachersputgreatemphasisonexplaininggrammaranddevelopingstudents’readingskill,leavingvocabularytostudentsthemselves.Tostudents,theybelieve,learningawordmeansknowingitspronunciation,spelling,andmean
