1、外文翻译FeministConsciousnessAftertheWomen’sMovementBarbaraEpsteinThereisnolongeranorganizedfeministmovementintheUnitedStatesthatinfluencesthelivesandactionsofmillionsofwomenandengagestheirpoliticalsupport.Therearemanyorganizations,rangingfromtheNationalOrganizationforWomentowomen’scaucusesinlabor
2、unionsandprofessionalgroups,whichfightforwomen’srights,andtherearemanymoreorganizations,manyofthemincludingmenaswellaswomen,whoseprioritiesincludewomen’sissues.Butthemasswomen’smovementofthelatesixties,seventies,andearlyeightiesnolongerexists.Few,amongthemanywomenwhoregardthemselvesasfeminists
3、,haveanythingtodowithfeministorganizationsotherthanreadingabouttheminthenewspapers.Youngwomenwhoaredrawntopoliticalactivismdonot,forthemostpart,joinwomen’sgroups.Theyaremuchmorelikelytojoinanticorporate,antiglobalization,orsocialjusticegroups.Theseyoungwomenarelikelytoregardthemselvesasfeminis
4、ts,andinthegroupsthattheyjoinafeministperspectiveislikelytoaffectthewayinwhichissuesaredefinedandaddressed.Butthisisnotthesamethingasamassmovementofwomenforgenderequality.Asimilardynamichastakenplaceinothercirclesaswell.Therearenowverylargenumbersofwomenwhoidentifywithfeminism,or,iftheyarerelu
5、ctanttoadoptthatlabel,neverthelessexpecttobetreatedastheequalsofmen.Andtherearelargenumbersofmenwhosupportthisview.Theextentoffeministorproto-feministconsciousness,bywhichImeananawarenessoftheinequalityofwomenandadeterminationtoresistit,thatnowexistsintheUnitedStates,isanaccomplishmentofthewom
6、en’smovement.Butitisalsosomethingofananomaly,sinceitisnolongerlinkedtothemovementthatproducedit.Whenthefirstwaveofthewomen’smovementintheUnitedStateswentintodecline,afterwomansuffragewaswonin1921,feminismwentintodeclinewithit.Bythe1950s,feminismhadalmostentirelydisappeared,notonlyasanorganized
7、movement,butalsoasanideologyandapoliticalandsocialsensibility.Evenintheearlysixties,intheNewLeft,todescribeoneselfasafeministwastoinviteraisedeyebrowsandprobablymoreextremereactions.Now,forasecondtimeinU.S.history,thememoryofamovementth
