1、《泰西新史揽要》论文：《泰西新史揽要》经世化改写研究【中文摘要】清代经世学者掀起翻译、研究域外史地学的热潮,其中由李提摩太、蔡尔康合译的《泰西新史揽要》是晚清所有翻译西方历史书籍中销售量最大、影响最广的一部。然而,现有对该书的研究大多散见于历史学、社会学学者撰写的晚清西学东渐相关著作,具体的翻译研究并不多见。从史学、社会学角度探讨《泰》为该书的翻译研究提供了必要的社会背景信息,但是这样一本产生重大影响的译作不应该被翻译研究领域忽略,将文化研究视角与翻译问题结合,有助于进一步挖掘《泰》的翻译研究价值,对史学研究等其他领域也有一定的借
2、鉴作用。鉴于此,本文借鉴翻译改写理论这一文化翻译视角,对照中西史传体例,通过细读文本,对《泰》中的诗学改写梳理分析,旨在挖掘该译本的翻译研究价值,评介晚清史学翻译的基本面貌,并为中西史书翻译中中国传统史学资源的利用提供启示。本文指出,受晚清经世实学思潮影响,《泰》呈现出经世实用的诗学特征,具体表现在人物、事件、评论的改写中。首先,通过虚拟人物言行、评价善恶得失、文学性修饰以传真传神,《泰》中的人物化身为善恶典型,发挥抑恶扬善的经世作用;其次,《泰》中的事件被赋予整合的结构,因果得失重新解释,并通过戏剧色彩的增强,事件中的治乱之由得
3、以彰显;最后,《泰》一方面将原文评论寓于叙事之中,一方面植入警示晚清当世的评论或叙述,借凝练的评论话语,反复申明该译本救国存亡的根本。在这三方面的改写中,《泰》明显受到中国传统史传叙事诗学的影响,将一本十九世纪欧洲世界进步史改写为经世实用的晚清域外史。这种基于中国经世史学传统的改写,对当代的史书翻译有一定的启示和借鉴作用,值得继续深入研究。【英文摘要】Intheupsurgeofdisseminatingwesternhistoriographyadvocatedbythepracticality-focusedscholarsi
4、nlateQingdynasty,TaiXiXinShiLanYaobyTimothyRichardandCaiErkanghasbroughtforththewidestdistributionandstrongestimpactamongallcontemporaneoustranslationsofhistoricalworks.However,researchesonTaiarenearlydismissedinthefieldoftranslationstudiesandarelargelyscatteredinhist
5、oricalorsociologicalanalysisonthe“WestLearningEastward”oflateQingperiod.WhiletheseresearcheshaveprovidedamacrounderstandingaboutthesocialcontextofTai,attentionshallberaisedintranslationstudiessothatacultural-translationperspectivecanbeadoptedtofurtherunveilthevaluesof
