6、药之名最早见于《诗经·郑风》(公元前6世纪)，马王堆帛书《五十二病方》(公元前187年)始载芍药入药，《神农本草经》将其列为中品，唐代以后尤其是宋代本草将芍药区分为白芍和赤芍两种独立的药物。白芍赤芍功能主治区别用药在《中国药典》2005年版(一部)中记载为：白芍“平肝止痛，养血调经，敛阴止汗。用于头痛眩晕，胁痛，腹痛，四肢挛痛，血虚委黄，月经不调，自汗，盗汗。”赤芍“清热凉血、散瘀止痛。用于温毒发斑，吐血衄血，目赤肿痛，肝郁胁痛，经闭痛经，瘾瘕腹痛，跌扑损伤，痈肿疮疡。”结合传统中医药理论，可以看出白芍属于补血药而赤芍属于清热凉血药的范畴。《中国药典》2005年

7、版(一部)中记载：白芍为芍药PaeonialacttfloraPall．的干燥根加工品；赤芍为芍药只lacUfloraPall．或川赤芍只veitchiiLynch的干燥根。经过历史上的长期渐变演化过程，芍药以栽培品入白芍而野生品入赤芍是白芍、赤芍区别用药的一个重要原因。全国各地除药典收载基源外，尚有栽培品毛果芍药只lactifloravailtrichocarpa(Bunge)Stem入白芍药用：野生芍药属植物毛赤芍只veitchiivat．woodwardii(StapfcxCox)Stem，美丽芍药PmaireiLevi．，新疆芍药Psinjiangens
