3、foradistributedmultimediasystemmedianodewhichiscurrentlydevelopedasaninfrastructuretosharemultimedia-enhancedteachingmaterialsamonglecturegroups.Theproposedreplicationmechanismsupportsthequalityofservice(QoS)characteristicsofmultimediadataandtheavailabilityofsyst

4、emresources.EachtypeofdatahandledandreplicatedareclassifiedaccordingtotheirQoScharacteristicsandreplicationrequirements.Themaincontributionofthispaperistheidentificationofnewreplicationrequirementsindistributedmultimediasystemsandamulticast-basedupdatepropagation

5、mechanismbywhichnotonlytheupdateeventsaresignalled,butalsotheupdateddataareexchangedbetweenreplicationmanagers.Byprototypingtheproposedreplicationmechanisminmedianode,weprovethefeasibilityofourconceptforcombiningtheQoSconceptwithreplicationmechanisms.1Introductio

6、nOnemajorproblemaboutusingmultimediamaterialinlecturingisthetrade-offbetweenactualityofthecontentandqualityofthepresentations.Afrequentneedforcontentrefreshmentexists,buthighqualitypresentationcannotbeauthoredbytheindividualteacheraloneattherequiredrate.Thus,itis
