3、etouserecycledmaterialsinthemakingofnewconcretefordifferentapplications.TheobjectivesofthisstudyaretosummarizepublishedresearchontheuseofrecycledconcreteaggregatesinnewconcretemixesandexamineitsimplementationinconstructionandindustryintheGCCregion.Thestud
4、yshowedthatwhilethereisreasonableresearchonrecycledconcrete,thepracticalimplementationintheregiongreatlylacksbehind,especiallyduetothelackofeconomicviabilityandawarenessofsuchapplicationsatthecurrenttime.1.IntroductionMembersoftheGCCintheMiddle-Eastinclud
5、ethePersianGulfstatesofBahrain,Kuwait,Oman,Qatar,SaudiArabiaandtheUnitedArabEmirates.TheGCCcountriesoccupytheareawithintheArabianPeninsula,whichislocatedinthesouthwesternregionoftheAsiancontinent.ThestrengthofGCCcountriesliesinhaving24–40%ofWorld’sconvent
6、ionaloilreservesandabout23%ofworld’sconventionalnaturalgasreserves.Theweaknessisrelatedtohavinganaridweather,shortageoffreshwater,andlimitedfarmingareas[1].TheArabianPeninsulaisaharshenvironmentwithtemperaturesrangingbetween7°and47°C,andanaverageannualrai
7、nfallbeingbetween70and140 mm[2].Apartfromtheoilandgassector,economyofmostoftheGCCcountriesdependstoalargeextentontheconstructionindustryandinfrastructureactivities.Thisisduetorecentinitiativesundertakenbythelocalgovernmentstodiversifyfromanoil-andgas-depe
8、ndenteconomy.PublishedstatisticsintheArabConstructionWorldmagazine[3]indicatethatthetotalvalueofrealestateprojectscurrentlyunderconstructionintheGCCstandsoverUS$2.39trillion.However,thelimitednaturalresourcesintheGC
