2、tioninenergyconsumptionrequiredbyburningfuelstoheattraditionalhotmixasphalt(HMA)totemperaturesinexcessof300°Fattheproductionplant.ThesehighproductiontemperaturesareneededtoallowtheasphaltbindertobecomeviscousenoughtocompletelycoattheaggregateintheHMA,ha

3、vegoodworkabilityduringlayingandcompaction,anddurabilityduringtrafficexposure.Withthedecreasedproductiontemperaturecomestheadditionalbenefitofreducedemissionsfromburningfuels,fumes,andodorsgeneratedattheplantandthepavingsite.Therearethreetechnologiestha

4、thavebeendevelopedandusedinEuropeancountriestoproduceWMA:1.TheadditionofasyntheticzeolitecalledAspha-Min®duringmixingattheplanttocreateafoamingeffectinthebinder.2.Atwo-componentbindersystemcalledWAM-Foam®(WarmAsphaltMixFoam),whichintroducesasoftbinderan

5、dhardfoamedbinderatdifferentstagesduringplantproduction.3.TheuseoforganicadditivessuchasSasobit®,aFischer-TropschparaffinwaxandAsphaltanB®,alowmolecularweightesterifiedwax.TheAspha-MinandSasobitproductshavebeenusedintheUnitedStates.Additionaltechnologie

6、shavebeendevelopedandusedintheUnitedStatestoproduceWMA:4.PlantproductionwithanasphaltemulsionproductcalledEvotherm™,whichusesachemicaladditivetechnologyanda"dispersedasphalttechnology"deliverysystem.5.TheadditionofasyntheticzeolitecalledAdvera®WMAduring

7、mixingattheplanttocreateafoamingeffectinthebinder.AllfivetechnologiesappeartoallowtheproductionofWMAbyreducingtheviscosityoftheasphaltbinderatagiventemperature.Thisreducedviscosityallowstheaggregatetobefullycoatedatalowertemperaturethanwhatistraditional
