3、.ThereismuchmoretotheAHPthanwehavespaceforbutwewillcoverthemosteasilyusedaspectsofit.TheAHPdealswithproblemsofthefollowingtype.Afirmwishestobuyonenewpieceofequipmentofacertaintypeandhasfouraspectsinmindwhichwillgovernitspurchasingchoice:expense,E;operab
4、ility,O;reliability,R;andadaptabilityforotheruses,orflexibility,F.Competingmanufacturersofthatequipmenthaveofferedthreeoptions,X,YandZ.Thefirm’sengineershavelookedattheseoptionsanddecidedthatXischeapandeasytooperatebutisnotveryreliableandcouldnoteasilyb
5、eadaptedtootheruses.Yissomewhatmoreexpensive,isreasonablyeasytooperate,isveryreliablebutnotveryadaptable.Finally,Zisveryexpensive,noteasytooperate,isalittlelessreliablethanYbutisclaimedbythemanufacturertohaveawiderangeofalternativeuses.(Thisisobviouslya
