3、sheep.Tennon-conventionalfeedtypescommonlyusedbyurbanandperi-urbanlivestockfarmerswereobtainedfromthefarmingsystemandevaluatedinvitrofollowingstandardprocedures.Followinginvitrostudies,fivenon-conventionalfeedtypeswereselectedforinvivostudiesbasedontheinvitroresult,availability,andwideusebyfarme

4、rs.Thirtyindigenousramsweighing22:60:97ðmeanSDÞkginitiallywerestratifiedintoweightgroupsandassignedrandomlytotreatments.TreatmentsincludedTelaatella(traditionalbreweryresidue),Katicalaatella(traditionalliquorresidue),lentil(Lensculinaris)hull,roughpea(Lathyrussativa)hull,andfieldpeas(Pisumsativ

5、um)hullbasedonthebasaldietofnativegrasshay(control).InvitrostudyindicatedthatTelaandK.atellahadhigherorganicmatter(97–98%),crudeprotein(CP)(21%),andgrossenergy(GE)(21–22MJ/kgDM)andlowerfiberfractions(neutraldetergentfiber,NDF¼4160%;aciddetergentfiber,ADF¼1121%).Pulsehulls(lentil,roughpeaandfieldp

6、eahulls)hadmediumtohighCP(8–16%),lowerGE(17–19.5MJ/kgDM),andhigherfiberfractions(NDF¼4971%;ADF¼4962%).Amongthepulsehullsconsidered,lentilhullhadthehighestCP(16%),andlowestNDF(49.4%)andADF(48.6%).PoultrylitterandorangepeelhadthehighestCP(30%)andGE(28MJ/kgDM),respectively.Resultsoftheinvivostudy

7、indicatedthatbothatellaandpulsehullsimprovedtotaldrymatter,organicmatter,nitrogen,energyandNDFintakes.Theimprovementwashigherforatellacomparedtopulsehullgroups.Basaldietintakewasreducedwhenpulsehullswerefed.T.atella,K.atellaandlen
