2、isotopicenrichmentfactorisextendedtoincludehyperfinesplittingandthenuclearfieldshift.Itisshownthathyperfinesplittingisanorderofmagnitudetoosmalltoexplaintheanomalyinthe238U/235UseparationintheU(III)-U(VI)exchangereaction.TheªanomalousmasseffectºinthisreactionandtherelatedU(IV)-U(VI)

3、exchangereactionsareshowntoberelatedtothenuclearfieldshiftoftheelectronenergylevels.Calculationsoftheeffectsoftheseshiftsexactlyreproducetheodd-evenstaggeringintheU(IV)-U(VI)exchangereactionandtheseparationfactorsfortheeven-evennuclei.IntheU(IV)-U(VI)exchangereactionsthenuclearfield

4、effectisthreetimesaslargeastheabsolutevalueandofoppositesigntothevibrationalenergyterm.ItisthenuclearfieldshiftwhichleadstoapreferenceoftheU(IV)fortheheavyisotopeineachoftheseexchangereactions.Arevisionofthereducedpartitionfunctionratiosofuraniumionsinsolution,whichtakesintoaccountt
