2、arrivalstofeedlots,buttheassociationbetweenrespiratoryandentericinfectionswithBCVinfeedlotcattleremainsuncertain.Fecalandnasalswabsamplesfrom85OhioAgriculturalResearchandDevelopmentCenter(OARDC)feedlotcattleaveraging7monthsofagewerecollectedatarrival(0)andat4,7,14,an

3、d21dayspostarrival(DPA).Anantigencaptureenzyme-linkedimmunosorbentassay(ELISA)wasusedtodetectconcurrentsheddingofBCVinfecalandnasalsamples.AllsamplesELISApositiveforBCVwerematchedwithanequalnumberofBCVELISA-negativesamplesandanalyzedbyreversetranscription-polymerasec

4、hainreaction(RT-PCR)oftheNgene.Pairedserawerecollectedatarrivaland21DPAandtestedforantibodiestoBCVusinganindirectELISA.Informationonclinicalsigns,treatmentsprovided,andcattleweightswerecollected.TheoverallratesofBCVnasalandfecalsheddingwere48%(41/85)and53%(45/85)byEL

5、ISAand84%(71/85)and96%(82/85)byRT-PCR,respectively.ThepeakofBCVnasalandfecalsheddingoccurredat4DPA.Thirty-twocattle(38%)showedconcurrententericandnasalsheddingdetectedbybothtests.ElevenpercentofcattlehadantibodytitersagainstBCVat0DPAand91%ofcattleseroconvertedtoBCVby

6、21DPA.TheBCVfecalandnasalsheddingdetectedbyELISAandRT-PCRwerestatisticallycorrelatedwithELISAantibodysero-conversion(P0.0001);however,BCVfecalandnasalsheddingwerenotsignificantlyrelatedtoclinicalsigns.SeroconversiontoBCVwasinverselyrelatedtoaveragedailyweightgains(P

7、0.06).Twenty-eightrespiratoryand7entericBCVstrainswereisolatedfromnasalandfecalsamplesof32cattleinHRT-18cellcultures.ThesefindingsconfirmthepresenceofentericandrespiratoryBCVinfectionsinfeedlotcalves.Furtherstudiesareneededtoelucidatethedifferencesbetweenentericandresp
