3、oxidecatalyzedtheoxidationofacroleintoacrylicacidaswellastheoxidativeringcontractionofcycloalkanonestotocycloalkanecarboxylicacids.Acroleinwassmoothlyoxidizedtoglyceraldehydebymeansofhydrogenperoxidewithosmiumtetroxideascatalyst.Bycarefullycontrollingth
4、epHofthesolution,itwasfoundpossibletocarryoutabase-catalyzedepoxidationofacroleintogiveglycidaldehyde,anewepoxyaldehyde;other(y$-unsaturatedaldehydesreactedsimilarly.Mesityloxideperoxide,obtainedinonly3%yieldasby-productfromthealkalineepoxidationofmesit
5、yloxideathighpH,couldbesecuredin20%yieldbycarryingouttheepoxidationatpH7.5-8.Acycliccy-diketone,3,5,5-trimethyl-1,2-eyclohexanedione,underwentnormalcleavagebyhydrogenperoxidetothesubstitutedadipicacidathighpH,whileatpH9acompletelydifferentproduct,3,3-di
6、methyl-5-ketohexanoicacid,wasobtained.Thesubstitutionofsodiumcarbonateforsodiumhydroxideinthepreparationofmonoperphthalicacidfromphthalicanhydrideandhydrogenperoxideledtoasimplifiedprocedureandahigheryield.Treatmentofmesityloxidewithperoxyacetieacidgave
7、theepoxyester,3’3-dimethyl-2-acetoxyoxirane.Finally,thereactionofthehexanoicacidradical(preparedfromhydrogenperoxide,cyclohexanoneandferrousion)withdimethylmaleateandotherconjugatedunsaturatedmaterialsledtoavarietyofmonobasicandpolybasicacids.RESUME.Lep
