3、yretrieved12publishedcompletemitogenomesfrommembersofRhagophthalmidae,Lampyridae,Phengodidae,Elateridae,Lycidae,Cantharidae,andTenebrionidae.OurmitogenomeanalysisconfirmedthedistinctivenessofRhagophthalmidaefromLampyridae,whichisconsistenttoourearliertranscriptomeanalysis.15Keywo

5、-standingpuzzle.Therearethreemajorhypothesesconcerningthisissue.First,RhagophthalmidaehadbeenassignedtothefamilyPhengodidae[3]inferredfrommorphologicaldata.Second,RhagophthalmidaehadbeenconsideredtobeasubfamilyorgenusinthefamilyLampyridaebasedonmorphological,embryologicaland[4,6,
6、7,9]molecularevidence.Third,morerecentevidencefrombothmorphologicalandmolecular25datahassupportedthefamilialstatusofRhagophthalmidae,whichisdistinctfromboth[1,2,5,8]LampyridaeandPhengodidae.Giventhattheevolutionaryhistoryofmorphologicalfeaturesisusuallycomplex,molecularevidenceha
7、sbeenexpectedtoresolvetaxonomicstatusand[10]phylogeneticrelationshipsthathavebeencontentiousbasedonmorphologicalevidence.However,theincongruenceofmolecularevidencehasbeenobservedinphylogeneticanalyses[1,5,7]30concerningthephylogeneticpositionofRhagophthalmidae,possiblybecauseasin
