2、egies.ThisthesisreportedastudyonthecontributionofEnglishvocabularylearningstrategiestoChinesenon-Englishmajors’vocabularyknowledge.Theaimofthisstudywasthree-fold:(a)tofindouttherelationshipamonglearners’passivevocabularies,controlledactiveandfreeactivevocabulariesan
3、dfurtherinvestigatethedevelopmentpathofthethreedimensionsofvocabularyknowledge;(b)toprobeintothestrategyuseprofileofChinesenon-Englishmajorsingeneral,andidentifythestrategiesconducivetolearningdifferentdimensionsofvocabularyknowledgeinparticular;(c)toexaminethepredi
4、ctionmodelofvocabularylearningstrategiestolearners’vocabularyachievementwithmotivationinvolvedasamoderatorvariable.Theparticipantsofthisstudyincluded206sophomoresmajoredinscience.Threevocabularytestsaswellasavocabularylearningquestionnairewereadministeredtothem.SPSS
5、13.0wasusedfordataanalysis.TheresultsofPearsoncorrelationsrevealedthatlearners’passivevocabularies,controlledactiveandfreeactivevocabularieswerecorrelatedsignificantlywitheachother.One-wayANOVAindicatedthatthethreedimensionsofvocabularyknowledgedidnotdevelopatthesam
6、eratewithlearners’passivevocabularysignificantlylargerthantheiractivevocabulary.One-wayANOVAwasalsoappliedtoprobeintothediscrepancybetweenthestrategyuseofproficientvocabularylearnersandthoselessproficient.Itwasfoundthatproficientlearnersusedavarietyofvocabularystrat
7、egiessignificantmoreoftenthantheirlessproficientcounterparts;however,recreationalstrategy,inparticularwasfoundtobeusedsignificantlymoreoftenbythelessproficientgroup.Multipleregressionswerealsoemployedtoshedsomelightonthepredicationmodelofvocabularylearningstrategyto
