2、snamesinrockandroll.Inthe1950sand1960s,hisafternoontelevisionshow,AmericanBandstand,wasadailyprogramforteensacrossthecountryanditchangedthewayAmericanslistenedtopopmusic.Clarkhittheairwavesbeforehewasevenoutofhighschool.Hiscareerbeganinthemailroomofaradiostatio
3、nrunbyhisfatheranduncle.Beforelong,hewasontheair.Hecontinuedtoworkasadiscjockeythroughcollege,andreturnedtothesmall,familyrunstationaftergraduation.Oneyearlater,in1952,hehitthe“bigtime”，movingtoWFILinPhiladelphia,PennsylvaniaandsoonwasoneofthebestknownradioDJ's
4、intown.Atthattime,WFILalsoownedatelevisionstationthathadanafternoonteendanceshowcalled“Bandstand，”andinafewyearsClarkbecametheregularhostofthatprogram,too.In1957,theABCtelevisionnetworkdecidedtotake“Bandstand”national,afterClarkconvincedthemthatateendanceshowwo
5、uldbepopularallacrossthecountry.RenamedAmericanBandstand,theshowbecameoneofTV'slongestrunningseriesandwasapartofnetwork'slineup(阵容)from1957to1987.EveryonewhowasanyoneinthepopmusicbusinessperformedonBandstand,fromJerryLeeLewisandtheJacksonFivetoPrinceandtheTalki
6、ngHeads.DickClarksoonmovedintothemusicpublishingandrecordbusiness.Andthenin1963hemovedtoHollywood,wherehestartedacompanyandproducedsometelevisionprograms.Someoftheshowsweremusicrelated,butmanyweregameshowsandawardshows.Hewasalsoawriter,leadingsometowonderifClar
