3、mailroomofaradiostationrunbyhisfatheranduncle.Beforelong,hewasontheair.Hecontinuedtoworkasadiscjockeythroughcollege,andreturnedtothesmall,familyrunstationaftergraduation.Oneyearlater,in1952,hehitthe“bigtime”，movingtoWFILinPhiladelphia,Pennsylvaniaand
4、soonwasoneofthebestknownradioDJ'sintown.Atthattime,WFILalsoownedatelevisionstationthathadanafternoonteendanceshowcalled“Bandstand，”andinafewyearsClarkbecametheregularhostofthatprogram,too.In1957,theABCtelevisionnetworkdecidedtotake“Bandstand”national
5、,afterClarkconvincedthemthatateendanceshowwouldbepopularallacrossthecountry.RenamedAmericanBandstand,theshowbecameoneofTV'slongestrunningseriesandwasapartofnetwork'slineup(阵容)from1957to1987.EveryonewhowasanyoneinthepopmusicbusinessperformedonBandstan
6、d,fromJerryLeeLewisandtheJacksonFivetoPrinceandtheTalkingHeads.DickClarksoonmovedintothemusicpublishingandrecordbusiness.Andthenin1963hemovedtoHollywood,wherehestartedacompanyandproducedsometelevisionprograms.Someoftheshowsweremusicrelated,butmanywer
7、egameshowsandawardshows.Hewasalsoawriter,leadingsometowonderifClarkwasaworkaholic.In1972,ClarklaunchedDickClark'sNewYear'sRockin'EveandwatchingtheshoweveryDecember31wassoonayearlytraditionformillionsandmillionsofAmericans.Clarkcontinuedtohosttheshowu
