5、efieldsofopticalcommunication[4],components[5-10],andopticalsensorsduetotheircompactandpotentialapplicationssuchaspowerfulcompactfiberlaser[11,12],bendingsensing[13-15],andnonlineardevices[16-18].Multi-coreopticalfiberwithnominallysingle-modecoresprovidesahostfortheinvestigationofmanypotent

6、ialapplications.Amajordisadvantageassociatedwiththeiruse,however,isthedifficultyinbothlightexcitinganddetectingthesignalsinthemulti-coresbecauseoftheirsmallsizeandrelativelycloseproximity.Becauseeachcorehastypicallyaradiusofonlyafewmicrometersandtheirseparationisoftheorderofseveraltimesthec
