2、ge.Becausestandarddeviationisameasureofvolatility,thebandsadjustthemselvestoongoingmarketconditions.Theywidenduringvolatilemarketperiodsandcontractduringlessvolatileperiods.BollingerBandsare,essentially,movingstandarddeviationbands.BollingerBandsaresometimesdisplayedwithathirdcente
3、rline.Thisisthesimplemovingaverageline.Mr.Bollingerrecommendsusinga10daymovingaverageforshorttermtrading,20daysforintermediatetermtrading,and50daysforlongertermtrading.Thestandarddeviationvaluemaybevaried.Increasethevaluefrom2standarddeviationsto2-1/2standarddeviationsawayfromthemo
4、vingaveragewhenusinga50daymovingaverage.Conversely,lowerthevaluefrom2to1-1/2standarddeviationsawayfromthemovingaveragewhenusinga10daymovingaverage.BollingerBandsdonotgeneratebuyandsellsignalsalone.TheyshouldbeusedwithanotherindicatorsuchasRelativeStrength(RSI).Thisisbecausewhenpric
5、etouchesoneofthebands,itcouldindicateoneoftwothings.Itcouldindicateacontinuationofthetrend;oritcouldindicateareactiontheotherway.Bythemselvestheydonottelluswhentobuyandsell.However,whencombinedwithRSI,theybecomepowerful.RSIisanexcellentindicatorwithrespecttooverboughtandoversoldcon
6、ditions.Whenpricetouchestheupperband,andRSIisbelow70,wehaveanindicationthatthetrendwillcontinue.Whenpricetouchesthelowerband,andRSIisabove30,wehaveanindicationthatthetrendwillcontinue.IfwerunintoasituationwherepricetouchestheupperbandandRSIisabove70approaching80wehaveanindicationth
7、atthetrendmayreverseitselfandmovedownward.Ontheotherhand,ifpricetouchesthelowerbandandRSIisbelow30approaching20wehaveanindicationthatthetrendmayreverseitselfandmoveupward.Avoidusingseveraldifferentindicatorsallusingsameinputdata.Ifyou'reusingRSIwiththeBollingerBands,don'tuseMACDtoo
