2、dailylife,frombooksandmagazinesoronTV,youcouldhearorseetheuseofEnglishslangshereandthere.Slangisasortofpopularcolloquialword,someisvulgar,andsomeisdialectal.SlangofthesamenatureexistsinbothEnglishandChinese.Ingeneral,slangcanbedividedintoeuphemism,swearword
3、andvulgarlanguage.ThispaperisinthesenseofgeneralandequivalentaspectstoanalyzethecharacteristicsandtranslationtechniquesofEnglishslang.1.ThecharacteristicsofEnglishslangTheslangitselfhassomeuniversalityandtheequivalentcharacteristics,whichperplexesthetransla
4、tionofEnglishslang.1.1UniversalityEnglishslangisoftenheardorusedinpeople’slives.Itisakindofdialectwhichthemostfamiliartopeople.Therefore,tosomeextent,hasacertainuniversalityofEnglishslang.1.1.1LimitationTheuseofslangtobelimitedbyacertaintime,certainoccasion
5、s,andthelanguageenvironmentwillbedecidedbypeopleandtime,coupledwithitsusewaswithacertaindegreeofexclusion,so,insomecases,notallpeoplecanuseuniformslang.Forexample,somewordsexpressedinsultingcalls,meanmockeryorrudelanguageareoftenusedamongyounggroup,using“ai
6、rhead”toexpress“idiot,dumbbell”,describingsuchpersonhasanemptyhead.Maybeitonlyhasair.1.1.2CultureSlanghasastrongculturebreath,whatslangreflectisboundtotheculturalvaluesofheritageofEnglish-speakingcountries.Duringtheprocessoftranslation,cross-culturalcommuni
7、cationisstillabigobstacle.Wecannotavoidculturalcollision,culturalconflictandcommunicationerrorsometime.Andbecauseoftheculturalvacuum,someslangcannotbetranslatedintocorrespondingtargetlanguageinChinese.ItalsomakestheEnglish-Chinesetranslationofslanghastobeco
