2、rlandsfirstaimedtoassessevaluationpracticeandcultureinthefieldsofcounterterrorism(CT)andpreventingandcounteringviolentextremism(PCVE).1ThestudyfoundthatevaluationofCTandPCVEstrategies,policiesandprogrammeswasstillinitsinfancyandthatevaluationpracticesandapproacheswerenotsufficientlyfocusedo
3、ntestingtheresultsandunderlyingassumptionsofCTandPCVEprogrammes.Sevenyearsonfromthisinitialstudy,inlightofthecontinuousdevelopmentsandinvestmentsoccurringinthefieldsofCTandPCVE,therewasagrowingnecessityforarenewedanalysisofhowstrategies,policiesandinitiativesinthesefieldsareevaluatedandwhat
4、advancescouldbemade.Mindfulofthis,inDecember2017theWODCcommissionedRANDEuropetoconductastudyaimedatinvestigatinghowevaluationsofCTandPCVEpoliciesintheNetherlandsandabroadhavebeendesignedandconductedoverthelastfiveyears,andwhatpracticallessonscanbedrawnregardingsuchevaluations(WODCProjectNum
5、ber2865).Thisreportdiscussestheactivities,resultsandfindingsofthisstudyandpresentsrecommendationsforfutureworkinthisarea.Itisaimedataspecialistaudienceofacademics,practitionersandpolicy-makerswithanintimateunderstandingofevaluation,particularlyinthecontextofCTandPCVE.RANDEuropeisanindepende
