2、inguafranca.Andalso,EnglishisspokenalotinChina.Asforuniversities,Englishcurriculumisoftenseen.AndaveryimportantproblemisthatalltheEnglishcurriculumsinChineseuniversitiesseemlike“EnglishlearnersinChinalearnEnglishessentiallytocommunicatewithpeoplefromtheInnerCircle”(Hu&Xi,2013,p389).
3、AndthecurriculumssetonlyforunderstandingAmericanandBritishculturalvalues.Sowhattheideasaboutthisproblemareandwhatthesetwoarticlesthinkaboutthecurrentsituationwillbediscussedinthispaper.AsChenandHusaying,“ConsensusalreadyexiststhroughouttheworldthatEnglishhaspluralforms”(Chen&Hu,2006
4、).ChinahasabigEnglish-speakingpopulation,andithasitsownstylesuchaspronunciationandspecialtranslationinunitwords,suchaskowtow,tofu,andkungfu.ButitisnotsoeasythatChinaEnglishcouldbeoneofthevarietiesofEnglish.ThestudiesthatChenandHu,HuandXididshowthatthereare“fivemajorinternalfactors”(
5、Chen&Xi,2006)whichcouldbeahindrancetoredundantChinaEnglishbeingaStandardEnglish.Theyare“demography,geography,authority,codificationandacceptability”(Chen&Xi,2006).Also,thegoalofEnglishteachinginChineseuniversitieswhichshouldbequestionedisaimtocommunicatewithInnerCirclecountries.Acco
6、rdingtothesurveyresultsinTowardstheAcceptabilityofChinaEnglishatHomeandAbroadandTowardsaMoreAppropriateUniversityEnglishCurriculuminChinainthecontextofEnglishasanInternationalLanguage,mostEnglishcurriculumsinChineseuniversitiesarerelatedtolearnAmericanandBritishculture,sothatstudent
7、saretaughthowtocommunicatewithAmericanandBritishaccentEnglishspeakers,butoncetheymeet“speakersfromnon-native-speakingcountries”(Hu&Xi,2013)whospeakEnglishwithstrangeaccentitwillbehardlytounderstandwhattheyaresaying.Thestudentswhowere“taughttobethebest”(Hu&Xi,2013)eithercouldundersta
