1、HumanResourcesandFoodSecurityinAfricaDevelopmentexperiencesofthelastdecadeshavemadeitclearthathumanresourcesareultimatelyakeyfactorbehindanyprogressthathasbeenmade.OneoftheworstbottlenecksondevelopmentinAfricahasbeentheshortageoftrainedpersonnel.Thedevelopmentofhumanresourcesisessentialfor
2、foodsecurityinAfrica.Aneducatedandinformedpopulaceisfundamentaltoanypoliciesandstrategiestoreducepoverty,excessivepopulationgrowth,environmentaldegradationandotherfactorsthataremostoftenthedirectcausesofhunger.Thisisespeciallytrueinthelow-income,food-deficitcountriesofAfricawherethereisanu
3、rgentneedforhumancapacitydevelopmentandforincreasedknowledgeandinformationaboutfoodproduction.Information,educationandtrainingallowfarmerstomakeuseofnewfarmingknowledgeandtechnologies.Researchshowsthatbothformaleducationandnon-formaltraininghaveasubstantialeffectonagriculturalproductivity.
4、AstudyinNigeriain1992foundthatanincreaseintheaverageeducationoffarmersbyoneyearincreasedthevalueaddedtoagriculturalproductionby24percent.InBurkinaFaso,a1993studyfoundthatcropyieldswere25to30percenthigherforfarmerswhoparticipatedintrainingprogrammesthanthosewhodidnotparticipate.WorldFoodSum
