1、ABSTRACTWiththetransitionfromplannedeconomytomarketeconomy,themarketstructureofChinesebankingindustryhaskeptevolving，buthighlymonopolizedmarketstructurehasbeencoexistingwiththepoorperformanceforalongtime．UnderthebackgroundthatChinesefinancialmarketwill

2、bemoreopened，thebankingindustrywillbefacedmoredrasticcompetition．StudyingthemarketstructureofChinesebankingindustryanditsrelationshipbetweentheperformancesempiricallycan’tonlyofferexperienceevidencesforafurtherreformofthebankingmanagement’Ssystem，butal

3、sohaspracticalsignificanceintheestablishmentandimplementofthebankingindustrypolicy．AnalyzingthemarketstructureofChinesebankingindustrybymarketshare，centralizationratio，enteringandwithdrawalbarriers，theresultshowsthatalthoughthereisatrendthatthemarketst

4、ructureofChinesebankingindustryischangingtomonopolycompetition，buttheoligarchicmonopolymarketstructureofthebankingindustrywon’tbechangedinashort—termowningtothelimitofthescale，strengthandcountrypolicy．Thestudyoftheperformanceshowsthatdifferencesbetween

5、commercialbanks’resourcesdisposition-performancesaresmallbecauseofthefinancialsupervisingandmanaging，butonaspectsofmanagement-performance，cost-performanceandcreditrisk，joint-stockbanksaredifferentfromstate-ownedbanksobviously．Basedontheexistedempirical

6、researchframe，thisthesisanalyzestheinnerlinkbetweenthemarketstructureandperformanceofChinesebankingindustrybyusingapaneldatamodelwhichistaken15commercialbanksintheperiod1996·2006assamples；marketshares(MS)，HHIindex，cost·incomeratio(RRC)andreturn(beforet

7、ax)onasset(ROA)asindexesformeasuringthemarketstructureofbankingindustry,bank’Sefficiencyandbank’Sperformancerespectively,furthermore，bankscale(LnA)，bankmanagementrisk(LDR)andincrementrateofGDP(RGDP)areintroducedintothemodelascontrolvariables．Theresults

8、showthat：(1)Marketshareissignificantlynegativelycorrelatedwithbanks’performanceinthetotalsamples，SOthe“market—powerhypothesis”doesn’texistinChinesebankingindustry；(2)HHIhasnegativeandsignificantrelationshipswithROAinthestate-ownedbankss
