2、nces.IfyoubelievethatyouhavebeenunlawfullyorunfairlyplacedinanMSUitisimportantthatyouseeklegaladvice(seecontactdetailsattheendofthispamphlet).WhencananOrderbemade?AnOrdercanonlybemadeifaprisonerisclassifiedas“maximumsecurity”andtheChiefExecutiveofCorrectiveServicesreasonablybelievest

3、hat–·Thereisahighriskofescapeorattemptedescape;·Thereisahighrisktheprisonerwillinflictdeathorseriousinjuryonotherprisonersorotherpersonswithwhomtheprisonermaycomeintocontact;·Generally,theprisonerisasubstantialthreattothesecurityandgoodorderoftheprisonThetermoftheOrdermustnotbeformor

4、ethan6months.WhencananOrderNOTbemade?Ifapersonhasanacutepsychiatricdisorder,issuicidalorself-harming,orhasasevereintellectualdisability,heshouldnotbeplacedinanMSU.Womenandprisonersunder18yearsoldmustnotbeplacedinanMSU.MedicalandotherassessmentsAdoctormustexamineaprisonerassoonaspossi

5、bleafterbeingplacedinanMSU,andnotlaterthan28daysafterinitialassessment.Anumberofotherassessmentswillalsobemadewithin14days.Forexample,apsychologicalassessmentmayberequired;‘security’andriskofescapewillalsobeassessed.ConditionsOnceassessmentshavebeencompleted,acopyofalltheconditionsth

6、atattachtotheOrdermustbegiventotheprisoner,including:·hoursallowedoutofthecell;·visitsandphonecalls;·association;·entitlementtoexercise;·property;TheOrdermustcontaindirectionsabouttheextentoftheperson’ssegregationfromotherprisoners,andtheprivilegesthatthepersonisentitledto,suchasacce

7、sstoprograms,trainingandcounselling.PrivilegesarelimitedtothosethatcanbeaccessedintheMSU.MAXIMUMSECURITYORDERSSentenceManagementissuspendedwhileaprisonerisintheMSU.Thismeansthatnosentencemanagementreviewsareundertaken.ThepersonisentitledtoreviewsbyanOfficialVisitor(see“OfficialVisito
