1、ABSTRACTXINBINGWANG.PerformanceAnalysisofTCPoverWiredandWirelessNetworks.(Un-derthedirectionofProfessorDoYoungEun.)TransmissionControlProtocol(TCP)currentlyaccountsforabout90%applica-tionsand80%dataofnetworktra±c,andplaysthedominantroleinInternettransmissi

2、on.Inthisdissertation,wepresentthreestudiesofTCPperformanceoverwiredandwirelessnetworks.Inthe¯rststudy,wemainlyfocusonthestabilityofTCP/AQM(ActiveQueueManagement)systemsforwirednetworkenvironment.Inparticular,westudythelocalandglobalstabilityofTCP-newReno/

3、REDundermany°owsregime.Byusinganormal-izeddiscrete-timemodel,whichissimple,weanalyzetheglobalstabilityinaverye±cientmanner,andtheresultsshowthatbyproperlychoosingREDparameters,wecanalwaysmaketheTCP-newReno/REDsystemgloballystable.ThesecondstudyconcernstheT

4、CPperformancewhenthebu®ersizeisscaledupdi®erentlyfromthetraditionaloneatalinkwithlargecapacitysharedbymany°ows.Speci¯cally,weconsiderthebu®ersizechosenontheorderof(N®)(0<®<1),whereN°owssharethelinkofcapacityO(N).Wethendevelopadoubly-stochasticmodelforaTCP/

5、AQMsystemwithmany°owsbytakingintoaccountthepacket-leveldynamicsover¯netimescales.Weshowthat,underourscale,thesystemalwaysperformswellinthesensethatthelinkutilizationgoesto1andthelossratiodecreasestozeroasthesystemsizeNincreases.Weverifyourresultsusingexten

6、sivens-2simulations.Finally,wethenanalyzetheimpactofTCP°owsonthewirelessnetworksfromtheresourceallocationpointofview.WeproposeaTCP-AIMDawarecalladmissioncontrolschemeoverwirelessnetworks.OurschemeisbasedonatwolevelCACframework,whichtakesboththecallleveland

7、thepacketleveldynamicsintoaccount.TheinteractionbetweentwolevelsischaracterizedthroughasinglemetriccalledtheQualityofService(QoS)guaranteedcapacity.Theperformanceoftheproposedschemeisthenanalyzedandextensivesimulationresultsarepresentedunderdi®erentscenari
