3、hinahasenhanceditscommunicationandexchangeswithothercountriesinrecentyears.ThishascontributedgreatlytostrengtheningChinesepeople’Sawarenessofthetrendofglobalintegration.Consequently,ChinesepeopledevotemuchmoretimetoEnglishlearningandattachgreaterimportancetobuildingtheircitiesin

4、toaninternationalmetropolis,especiallyafterthe29thOlympicGamesin2008andtheWorldExpositionin2010wereheldsuccessfullyinBeijingandShanghairespectively,forwhichagoodembodimentisthetranslationworkofpublicsignsintoEnglish.However,itisdemonstratedthatproblemsofvariouskindsdetectedinEng

5、lishversionsofChinesepublicsignshaverenderedthetranslationworkfarfrombeingqualified,letalonetofacilitateforeigners’everydayactivitiesandtoimprovetheimagesofChinesecities.Therefore,itisofsignificancetocarryoutresearchesontheverysubject.Basedonareviewofpreviousstudiesandareflectio

6、nofthedatacollected,thethesisattemptstostudytheC-EtranslationofpublicsignsfromtheperspectiveofpragmaticsanddrawsontheSpeechActTheoryasthetheoreticalframework.AccordingtotheSpeechActtheory,sayingsomethingisinfactdoingsomething.Inotherwords,producinganutteranceisinessenceperformin
