3、BusinessProcessOutsourcing:EmpiricalEvidencefromtheGermanBankingIndustryAbstractBusinessprocessoutsourcing(BPO)hasbeensuggestedasoneofthebiggestareasofgrowthintheoutsourcingmarket.Nevertheless,manyorganizationsarestillreluctanttooutsourcebusinessprocessesthatarepar

4、toftheircorebusiness.Inordertohelpovercomethisdivergencebetweenexpectationsandreality,wesystematicallyanalyzethefactorsthatformanorganization’sattitudetowardsBPOaswellastheirintentiontoadoptBPO.WedevelopaBPOadoptionmodelwhichisbasedontheargumentthatBPOposesbothrisk

5、sandbenefitsandthatdecisionmakersneedtobalancebothbeforeadoptingBPO.ThemodelistestedbasedondatathatwascollectedintheGermanBankingIndustry.Altogether218datapointsontheperceptionsofbusinessmanagersinthefourareasoftransactionprocessing(credits,securities,domesticpayme

6、nts,andforeignexchange/moneymarket)wereavailableformodeltestingviaPartialLeastSquares.TheresultsshowthattheintentiontooutsourcetheseIT-intensivebusinessprocessesisstronglyinfluencedbythemanager’sattitudetowardsBPO.Othernon-rationalfactorsplayaminorrole.Onlypeerinfl

7、uencesinthebankingindustrywerefoundtosignificantlyinfluenceintentions.Around77percentofthevariationsinattitudeareexplainedbyperceivedrisksandperceivedbenefits.TheperceivedbenefitshaveamuchstrongerinfluenceonBPOacceptancethanrisks.Thisindicatesthatrisksmaybesomewhat

8、underrepresentedintheadoptionprocess.Moreover,itisinstructivetonotethattheabilitytofocusoncorecompetenciesisthestrongestadvantageforBPO,followedb
