2、ifieddistinctbraincircuitsthatareinvolvedinspecifichigherbrainfunctions.Todate,thesefindingshavenotbeenappliedtoresearchoncreativity.Itispro-posedthattherearefourbasictypesofcreativeinsights,eachmediatedbyadistinctiveneuralcircuit.Bydefinition,creativeinsightsoc
3、curinconsciousness.Giventheviewthattheworkingmemorybufferoftheprefrontalcortexholdsthecontentofconsciousness,eachofthefourdistinctiveneuralloopsterminatesthere.Whencreativityistheresultofdeliberatecontrol,asopposedtospontaneousgener-ation,theprefrontalcortexalso
4、instigatesthecreativeprocess.Bothprocessingmodes,deliberateandspontaneous,canguideneuralcomputationinstructuresthatcontributeemotionalcontentandinstructuresthatprovidecognitiveanalysis,yieldingthefourbasictypesofcreativity.Supportiveevi-dencefrompsychological,co
5、gnitive,andneuroscientificstudiesispresentedandintegratedinthisar-ticle.Thenewtheoreticalframeworksystematizestheinteractionbetweenknowledgeandcreativethinking,andhowthenatureofthisrelationshipchangesasafunctionofdomainandage.Implicationsfortheartsandsciencesare
6、brieflydiscussed.Creativityisafundamentalactivityofhumaninforma-Despitesuchagreementamonginvestigators,thefind-tionprocessing(M.A.Boden,1998).Itisgenerallyagreedingsofmodernbrainresearchhavenotbeenincorporatedtoincludetwodefiningcharacteristics:“Theabilitytopro-
7、intoresearchoncreativity.Currentneuroscientificexpla-duceworkthatisbothnovel(i.e.,original,unexpected)andnationsofcreativeachievementsremainfocusedonhemi-appropriate(i.e.,useful,adaptiveconcerningtaskcon-sphericasymmetry(e.g.,J.E.Boden&G.M.Boden,straints)”(Stern
