3、mploymentcreation,welfare,economicgrowth,andinternationaltrade.Ourunderstandingoftheinnovationprocess,anditseconomicimplications,werebuiltonstudiesofmanufacturingsectors.Whatneedstobechanged?Aresometheoriesandmodelsnolongerapplicable?Doweneedtodevelopnewexplanations,th
4、eoriesandmodels?Isinnovationinservicesectorsfundamentallydifferenttoinnovationinmanufacturingsectors,oristhereasetofcommonfeatures?Thesearekeyquestionsthatarenowbeingasked.Wesuggestthat,bystudyingservicesinnovation,scholarsofinnovationhaveanopportunitytodevelopanintegr
5、atedaccountofinnovationthatisapplicabletobothservicesandmanufacturing,andwhichcoversallaspectsoftheinnovativeprocess.Thisrequiresareassessmentofestablishedtheoriesandmodels,andthedevelopmentandtestingofnewtheoriesandmodels.Inotherwords,itrequiresathoroughreviewofwhat(w
