2、ss,itseemsthataveryexpressivetransparentmediumhumanscommunicatewith,statetheirproblemsinandjustifyhowtheysolvetheseproblemsisNL.Hence,wewishedtouseNLasaKnowledgeRepresentation(KR)inNLknowledge-based(KB)sytems.However,NLisfullofambiguities.Inaddition,therearesyntacticandse-manticprocessingc
3、omplexitiesassociatedwithNL.Hence,weconsideraquasi-NLKRwithatractableinferencerelation.Webelievethatsucharepresentationbridgesthegapbetweenanexpressivesemanticrepresenta-tion(SR)soughtbytheNaturalLanguageProcessing(NLP)communityandanefficientKRsoughtbytheKRcommunity.InadditiontobeingaKR,weus
4、ethequasi-NLlanguageasaSRforasubsetofEnglishthatitdefines.Also,itiscapableofageneral-purposedomain-independentinfer-encecomponentwhichis,accordingtosemanticists,allwhatittakestotestasemantictheoryinanyNLPsystem.Thispapergivesonlyaflavourforthisquasi-NLKRanditscapabilities(foradetailedstudyse
5、e[14]).1IntroductionThemainobjectionagainstasemanticrepresentationoraKnowledgerepresentationisthattheyneedexpertstounderstand1.Non-expertscommunicateviaanaturallanguage(usually)andmoreorlesstheyunderstandeachotherwhileperformingalotofreasoning.Nevertheless,foralongtime,theKRcommunitydismis
6、sedtheideathatNLcanbeaKR.That’sbecauseNLcanbeveryambiguousandtherearesyntacticandsemanticprocessingcomplexitiesassociatedwithNL.Recently,researchersstartedlookingatthisissueagain.Possibly,ithastodowiththeNLProcessingcommunitymakingsomeprogressintermsofprocessingandhandlingambiguityandtheKR
7、communityrealisingthatalotofknowledgeisalready’coded’inNLandoneshouldreconsiderthewaytheyhandleexpressivityandambiguitytomakesomeadvancesonthisfront.WehavechosenoneoftheseKR,namely,[8],asastartingpointtobuildaKRsystemusingasinputasimplifiedNLthatthisKRdefines.On
