3、cmarkets.Thisislikelytoleaddomesticindustries/labortodemandinterventionbynationalgovernmentstomitigatetheadverseimpactoftradeliberalization(Standbury&Vertinksy,2004).Inspiteofthesubstantialjoblosses,theUSTCindustryremainstechnologicallyadvancedpartlyduetoincreasedproductivityresulting
4、fromadvancesintechnologyanddesigncapabilities.Textileproductioniscapitalintensiveandmoderntechnologyisessentialtomeettheincreasingforhigh-qualityproducts.Overthelastfewyears,UStextilesandapparelfirmshavesubstantiallyincreasedtheirinvestmenttomaintainmodernmanufacturingfacilitiesaswell
5、asimproveproductionandmarketingcapabilitiesinordertomaximizetheirinherentadvantagestomarketproximity.Inapparel,lowskillproductionjobshavemovedtolow-costlocationsoffshorewhilethemoreskilledoneshavebeenretained.Tosuccessfullyadapttothenewenvironment,USTCindustriesneedtocapitalizeontheir
6、sourcesofcompetitiveadvantage.Theyneedtodevelopamoreflexibleoperationalarrangement,meethighstandardsinproductinnovationandgenerallydevelopamorechange-seekingbusinessculture(Kilduff,2005).AnimportantsurvivaltoolforUSTCfirmsistoexpandtheirpotentialmarketbyofferingnewproductdesignsandpro
