1、HowCultureAffectsFemaleInequalityAcrossCountries:AnEmpiricalStudyHoiYanCheungAlexW.H.ChanManystudieshavecommentedthatculturehasaninfluenceongenderinequality.However,fewstudieshaveprovideddatathatcouldbeusedtoinvestigatehowcultureactuallyinfluencesfemaleinequality.Oneof
2、theaimsofthisstudyistoinvestigatewhetherHofstede’sculturaldimensionshaveanimpactonfemaleinequalityinedu-cationintermsoffemaleenrollmentrates(atprimary,secondary,andtertiarylevels)in53differentregions.Moreover,thisstudyexamineswhethertheenrollmentratescanaffectthecareer
3、andincomeofwomenintheregionsstudied.Finally,thisstudyalsoexaminestherelationshipsbetweenHofstede’sculturaldimensionsandthecareeropportunitiesandincomeofwomen.DatafromtheUnitedNationsDevelopmentProgram’sHumanDevelopmentReport2005wasusedinthisstudy,andtheresultsshowthati
4、ndividualism,powerdistance,andmasculinitycouldsignificantlyandstronglypredicttheeducationalenrollmentrates,career,andincomeofwomenacrossthe53regions.Keywords:Hofstede’sculturaldimensions;femaleinequality;crosscountries;edu-cation;employmentStudiesdonecoveringdifferentp
