3、ionoftraditionalChineseculture:1.SuchmodernizationmustbeexecutedbytheChinesenationitselfex2clusivelyintheinterestsofourownage.2.Modernizationmustinvolveanalysis,evaluation,selection,revision,andinnovationsintraditionalChineseculture.ModernizingtraditionalChinesecul
4、turethusmeansupdatingtraditionalChineseculture.Duringthisprocess,inwhichtraditionalChinesecultureismadetocoincidewithChinapscurrentreality,wemusttakestockofandmakeeffortstoupdateorimprovetradition.Inordertobringaboutatransforma2tioninwhichtraditionalChinesecultures
5、ervescontemporaryneeds,wemusttakeintoaccounttheprerequisitesformodernization,andtheprincipalchan2nelsandmethodsthroughwhichmodernizationcanbeachieved.I.ThePrerequisiteforEffectingModernization:MakingaScientificandRationalAppraisalofTraditionalChineseCultureToensure
6、arationalappraisaloftraditionalChineseculture,thestandpointandperspectiveofthosemakingtheappraisalmustfirstbescientificallydefined.Inotherwords,theappraisalmustbeconductedfromthestandpointoftheChinesenationasawhole,andfromtheperspectiveoftheerainwhichwelive,andboth
7、ofthesemustbeinharmony.InevaluatingtraditionalChineseculture,oneshouldalwaysbeonthelookoutforaspectsthatcanbeupdated,andeveryassessmentmustbeinlinewiththebasicinterestsoftheChinesenation.OnlyonthisbasiscanascientificandrationalevaluationoftraditionalChinesecultureb
