3、ereaseintheirsecondlanguage(L2)thanintheirfirstlanguage(L1).Toinvestigatethisphenomenonpsychophysiologically,32TurkishEnglishbilingualsratedavarietyofstimuliforpleasantnessinTurkish(L1)andEnglish(L2)whileskinconductancewasmonitoredviafingertipelectrodes.

4、Par-ticipantsdemonstratedgreaterautonomicarousaltotaboowordsandchildhoodreprimands(Shameonyou!)intheirL1comparedtotheirL2.ThisfindingprovidesquantifiablesupportforthesubjectiveexperiencesofL2speakers.Bilingualspeakershavereportedthatitiseasiertosaysomeki

5、ndsofemotion-allychargedwordsorexpressionsinalanguagethatisnottheirnativelanguage.Inthisstudy,weexploredthepossibilitythatthisdifferencebetweenafirstlanguage(L1)andasecondlanguage(L2)haspsychophysiologicalcomponents.Inparticular,wehypothesizedthattaboowo

6、rdsinanativelanguagewouldelicitstrongerskinconductanceresponsesthansimilartaboowordslearnedlaterinlifeinanL2.WealsohypothesizedthatemotionalexpressionslearnedearlyinlifeinanL1(suchasthekindsofreprimandsyoungchildrenhear)wouldevokegreaterphysiologicalresp
