3、preciselyabouttheenzymesinvolvedinthisbiosynthesis.Theknowledgeofenzymesassists,butisnotalwaysaprerequisitefor,theisolationofthegeneticmaterial,usuallycDNAs,usedasthegenetictoolstomanipulatehormonesynthesis.Thefirstsuchexampleofthemanipulationofhormonebiosyn-thesisbytheapplicationofgeneticengineer

4、ingwasforthehor-moneethene.ThebiosyntheticpathwayforethenewasfirstdescribedinapplesbyAdamsandYang(1).Methioninewasfoundtobetheprecursorofthishormoneinplanttissueandiscon-vertedviaS-adenysyl-methionine(SAM)intotheuniquecompound1-amino-1-carboxylcyclopropane(ACC).TheconversionofSAMintoACCiscarriedou
