2、on rmheterogeneityinproductivityandproductdi er-entiationinquality.UsinganextendedversionoftheMelitzandOttaviano(2008)model,weshowthatexporting rmsabsorbtari changesbyadjustingboththeirmarkupsandproductquality,whichleadstoanincompletetari pass-through.Moreo
3、ver,theabsolutevalueoftari absorptionelasticity(thepercentagechangeinthetari -exclusiveexportpriceinresponsetoaonepercentchangeinthegrosstari rate)negativelydependson rmproductivityforproductswithhighscopeforqualitydi erentiation,butpositive-lydependson rmp
4、roductivityforproductswithlowscopeforqualitydi erentiation.UsingtheU.S.transaction-levelexportdataandplant-levelmanufacturingdata,we ndevidenceforthesepredictions.The rm-leveltari absorptionelasticityis 0:87onav-erage.Pooledregressionsrevealthatthetari abso
5、rptionelasticityishigher(intermsofabsolutevalue)forlowproductivity rms( 1:27)andlowerforhighproductivity rms( 0:44).Estimationdoneseparatelyonqualitydi erentiatedgoodsandqualityhomo-geneousgoods ndsthattheinverserelationshipbetweentari absorptionelasticitya
