4、ewed,focusingonrecentdevelopmentsthathaveprovidedamorecompleteframeworkforunderstandingthissubtlephenomenonandhave,inmanyinstances,replacedcontroversybyclarity.Synergybetweenexperimentalandtheoreticalworks,bothplayingacrucialrole,hasbeenattheheartoftheseadvances.Onthetheoreticalfront,the
5、adoptionoftheBerry-phaseconceptshasestablishedalinkbetweentheAHEandthetopologicalnatureoftheHallcurrents.Ontheexperimentalfront,newexperimentalstudiesoftheAHEintransitionmetals,transition-metaloxides,spinels,pyrochlores,andmetallicdilutemagneticsemiconductorshaveestablishedsystematictren
6、ds.Thesetwodevelopments,inconcertwithÞrst-principleselectronicstructurecalculations,stronglyfavorthedominanceofanintrinsicBerry-phase-relatedAHEmechanisminmetallicferromagnetswithmoderateconductivity.TheintrinsicAHEcanbeexpressedintermsoftheBerry-phasecurvaturesanditisthereforeanintrinsi
7、cquantum-mechanicalpropertyofaperfectcrystal.Anextrinsicmechanism,skewscatteringfromdisorder,tendstodominatetheAHEinhighlyconductiveferromagnets.ThefullmodernsemiclassicaltreatmentoftheAHEisreviewedwhichincorporatesananomalouscontributiontowave-packetgroupvelocityduetomom
