3、attheyarecalculating.Wecomparedifferentcomputationalmethodsforcalculatingthepropagationconstantsoftheleakymodes,focusingontherelativelysimplecontextofaW-typeslabwaveguide.Inalosslessmediumwithinfinitetransverseextent,adirectdeterminationoftheleakymodebyus
4、ingmodematchingiscomparedwithcompletemodedecomposition.Themodematchingmethodisanalogoustothemultipolemethodintwodimensions.Wethencomparetheseresultswithasimplefinite-differenceschemeinatransverseregionwithabsorbingboundariesthatisanalogoustofinite-differen
5、ceorfinite-elementmethodsintwodimensions.Whilethephysicalmeaningoftheleakymodesinthesedifferentsolutionmethodsisdifferent,theyallpredictanearlyidenticalevolutionforaninitial,nearlyconfinedmodeprofileoveralimitedspatialregionandalimiteddistance.Finally,wedem
