4、1970),Kimmel(1974),andCurrallandInkpen(2000)],theirinterweavinghasnowbecomemoreandmoreunquestionable.aHowever,whilecooperationisgenerallyviewedasaimingatjointcreationofvaluebetweenpartners,noconsensualde ni-tionoftrusthasemergeduptonow.bDepartingfromotheraccepta
5、tions(Rousseauetal.,1998),Iproposetoviewtrustattheinter rmlevelasafavourableattitudeofonepartnervis-a-visanotherpartner'sreliablecommitmentwithinapartnership.Statedsomewhatdi erently,onepartner'sunreliablecommitmentissupposedtogiverisetoanattitudeofvigilancefro
6、mtheotherpartner.Theintegrationofmutualvigilanceattitudestoeachothers'unreliablerespectivecommitments,ifany,may ndexpressionwithinacommonmonitoringactivity,i.e.acommonsafe-guardingactivity.Accordingly,cooperationshouldthenbeorganisedontwomajoractivities:jointpro
