3、t know all the cues used in the new culture.Psychologists state that there are four distinct stages of culture shock. During the first few days of a person’s stay in a new country,everything goes quite smoothly. The newcomer is excited about being in a new
4、 place where there are new sights and sounds, smells and tastes. This first stage of culture shock is called the “honeymoon phase”.Unfortunately, this phase comes to an end fairly soon as the newcomer has to deal with problems with transport, shopping and
5、communication. It may start to seem like people no longer care about your problems. In this “rejection phase”, the newcomer becomes aggressive and starts complaining about the host culture. If you don’t survive stage two successfully, you may find yourself
6、 in phase three: the “regression” phase whereby you move backwards, spending your time speaking your ownlanguage, watching DVDs from your home country, eating food from home and associating with students who speak your own language. If you survive this st
