3、teproducedintwolarge-scaletestcellsattheOdayeriSanitaryLandfill,Istanbul,Turkey.Wepresentamathematicalmodeloftheseparameterconcentrationsinleachatesoftwotestcellswithonebeingthecontrol(C1)andtheother(C2)leachaterecirculation.Therelationshipbetweentheseparamet
4、ersandrefuseageissimulatedbyamathematicalformula.Theunknownconstantsofthesimulationformulaaresolvedbytheleastsquaresmethod,whichminimizesthesquaredtotalofdeviationfromthemodeloftheactualdatausingaMATLAB®computerprogram.Agoodfitwasobtainedbetweenthemeasureddat
5、aandmodelsimulations.CODconcentrationsinleachatefromC1andC2rapidlyattainedtheirmaximumvaluesof75and70g/l,respectively,after1monthoflandfilling.BODtoCODratiosarearound0.8forbothtestcellsduringtheacidogenicphase;thisratiothendecreasedto0.06.Asharpdecreaseinthec
6、oncentrationofCl−from14to15g/lwasobservedafterapproximately2monthsofoperation,followedbyaslowdecrease.SO2−concentrationsrapidlyreachedamaximumvalueof2000mg/l4within45days;developmentofanaerobicconditionscausedasharpdecreasetoaround75mg/lforC2and450mg/lforC1a
7、fter5monthsofoperation.TheresultsshowedthatthereappearedtobelittleimprovementinleachatequalitybyleachaterecirculationintermsofCODandBODvalues,however,itisdeterminedthatthepollutionloadsmorerapidlyreachedminimumvalueswithintheC2testcell.©2005ElsevierB.V.Allri
