3、embranesoftheendoplasmicreti-culum.Somespecificaspectsofthismorphogenesisarediscussed.IntroductionIn1978,anewcoronavirus-likeagent(CVLA),wasdemonstratedinthefaecesofpigletsfromoutbreaksofdiarrhoea(16).Theclinicalfindingsafternaturalandexperimentalinfectionhavebeende-scribed(7).Thevirushasbe
4、enprovisionallyclassifiedasacoronavirus,basedonitsmorphologicaspectwithnegativestaining.Ithasbeenshowntodiffersero-logicallyfromotherknownporcinecoronaviruses,transmissiblegastro-enteritisvirus(TGEV)andhaemagglutinatingencephalo-myelitisvirus(HEV)(16).Thepathogenesisoftheexperimentaloronasa
5、linfectionhasbeenstudiedbyimmunofluorescenee(8).TheaccompanyinghistologicalandultrastructurMlesionswillbereportedelsewhere(4,11).Theresultsofthesestudiesshowthatvirusreplicationoccursinthecytoplasmofabsorptiveepithelialcellscoveringthesmallintestinalvilliandthelargeintestine.Theintraeellula
6、rvirusreplicationresultsinalterationsofcellularorganellesandcelldesquamation.ThepresentstudydealswiththemorphogenesisoftheCVLAintheintestinalepithelialcellsofpigletsafterexperimentaloronasalinfection.MaterialsandMethodsSixteencaesarean-derivedcolostrum-deprivedpigletswereinoculatedoronasall
