2、ichhasrathergrammaticalmeaningthanlexicalmeaning;semantically,itisoneformofChinesepassivestructuresanddenotesthesyntacticmeaningthatthesubjectisthe“patient”ofakindof“agent”(whichisoptionalinaBEIconstruction),andthepredicaterelatesthepossibleforcethesubjectundergoes(王力,1985;吕
3、叔湘,1982;王还,1983).Though,aswewillseesoonintheliteraturereviewbelow,therearevariousunderstandingoftheBEIconstructionwithintheacademiccircle,thispapershalldefinetheconstructionasasyntacticstructureofmodernChinesepassiveformwiththepresenceofthepassivemarker“被”denotingpuregrammat
4、icalmeaning.1.2LiteraturereviewSincetheterm“passiveforms”waspublicallyputforwardinModernChineseGrammar(《中国现代语法》,1985),thestudyontheBEIconstructionmaintainstobeaheatedspotofdebateanddiscussion.Thebodyofliteraturededicatedtothestudyofthislinguisticphenomenonisbranchedintofourm
5、ajorperspectives,studiesontheconstructionintheancientChinese,inthemodernvernacularChinese,inthemodernChinesedialects,andinthecomparisonbetweenChineseandEnglish.SincethesubjectofourstudyisexclusivelymodernvernacularChinese,areviewconcerningthisperspectivewillbecarriedout.11.2
